“Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood — who is currently on her fourth month of her five-year prison sentence — has opened up about her decision to opt-out of a court-ordered rehab stint and details of how her life has changed since she went behind prison bars.

According to reports, in an emotional half-hour special of “Amber Behind Bars,” Amber Portwood tells addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky that she misses the little things in life she once enjoyed before going to prison.

“I just miss being able to sleep in. I miss going to Starbucks, driving in my car and listening to music. I know those are material things, but they made me happy,” Portwood told Dr. Pinsky in the exclusive preview clip. “I miss freedom is what it is — I miss my family.”

Amber Portwood has had the chance to speak to three-year-old Leah, her daughter with former boyfriend Gary Shirley, while she’s been locked up at the Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana. Dr. Drew Pinsky told Us Weekly that he is trying to arrange an in-person visit for them soon. Leah currently does not know her mother is in prison.

“[At the prison] they actually have visitation playgrounds for the kids. It’s really set up — she has to walk by this playground every day where other people are visiting their children. It’s very tough for her,” says Pinsky, who talked to Amber Portwood nearly three weeks ago.

As a former substance abuser, Amber Portwood needs to work hard to better herself physically and emotionally while in prison. She is also grateful that her ex-boyfriend, Gary Shirley can take care of their daughter full-time.

“She knows she’s in no shape to be parenting right now. She knows it,” Pinsky explains. “Gary certainly has stepped up. He has help with in-laws and grandparents but he’s not passing off his responsibilities at all.”

The journey of Amber Portwood into parenthood has been tough. The reality star  used to be a self-declared party girl, but now discovers she has little time to do anything besides take care of her daughter, Leah. Amber dropped out of high school when she discovered she was pregnant with Gary Shirley’s child. She struggles to balance school and parenting, and her dream of opening her own beauty salon seems far-fetched now. She is also known to have many troubles with her baby’s father. Some of the issues have led to physical violence in front of her child, including an incident where Amber Portwood beat him so severely, it left permanent scars. Amber eventually got arrested for domestic violence against Gary.

“Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood, who is still in prison as of the moment, was not able to participate during Tuesday’s night’s “Teen Mom” special with Dr. Drew. This prompted the MTV reality star to give a lengthy statement about her well-documented personal issues.

Amber Portwood, whose daughter Leah is now three years old, has spent the last few years going back and forth from prison on various charges, which includes assaulting her baby daddy, Gary Shirley.

Back in May, Amber Portwood voluntarily opted to go to prison instead of going to rehab to seek treatment for her drug problems.

In her statement, “Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood said that she “just got lost,” but now knows she has to “grow up quicker and start acting like a mother.”

“I see pictures of [Leah] and I think about where I went wrong and how I can fix it so she can be proud of me,” Amber Portwood said.

The “Teen Mom” star went on to acknowledge that she’s now facing the consequences of engaging in unprotected sex, and hopes “people look at my story and say, ‘That’s not the way I want to go.’”

As for whether she and Gary will reunite when she is released from jail, Portwood says she is pessimistic, but notes, “Right now my No. 1 priority in life is dedicating my life to being sober, to being a sober person.”

“And to show my daughter that people make mistakes but you can always come back,” added the reality star.

Below is the full statement made by “Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood:

“Right now I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing with my life. I guess I just got lost. I went to jail because I had an addiction to opiates. You live and you learn. and that’s real. It’s time for me to stop partying and realize that even though I’m 21, I’m not a normal 21-year-old — I’m a mother. Which means I have to grow up quicker and start acting like a mother.”

“I miss Leah a lot. She’s a little mini-me. I see pictures of her and I think about where I went wrong and how I can fix it so she can be proud of me.”

“As for Gary, I know that he’s a good dad. I hope he finds happiness, even if it’s not with me. I know we probably won’t get back together. He has too many insecurities when it comes to our relationship but I hope that one day we can have a good relationship between us and Leah.”

“Right now my No. 1 priority in life is dedicating my life to being sober, to being a sober person. And to show my daughter that people make mistakes but you can always come back. If Leah learns anything from me she should see how becoming a teen mom can change you. How everything is postponed.”

“I made the show for a reason…some decisions change your whole life. If you don’t want to take responsibility and use protection, then don’t have sex. One night can change your whole life into a sad story.”

“I hope people look at my story and say, ‘That’s not the way I want to go.’ I know everybody looks at me as a mean person who cusses and hits people, but that’s not me. That’s just what I had to go through to grow up and learn.”

“I want to show everybody that I can do it and I can start living a straight life and getting my family back in order.”

‘Teen Mom’ star Amber Portwood may be a jailbird now, but even jailbirds want to take care of their little chicks.

The Hollywood Gossip reported that the 20-year-old Portwood recently resumed her 5-year-jail term after giving up on rehab. However, she also wanted to do whatever it took to maintain her relationship with her adorable 3-year-old daughter, Leah Portwood.

The emotionally-wringing Tuesday episode of ‘Teen Mom’ covered Portwood’s time in rehab in Malibu, California. Amber Portwood received a welcome visit from her daughter Leah and her ex-fiancee Gary Shirley.

However, The Hollywood Gossip reported that their family reunion hit a hitch because of an earlier court order concerning the estranged couple. Shirley was shocked to find out that he was legally barred from being in the same room with Amber and Leah Portwood at the same time.

“I brought Leah with me,” Gary Shirley told Amber Portwood, “But I guess we can’t be together.” After an embrace, the estranged couple parted ways so that Amber could talk to Leah Portwood while the ‘Teen Mom’ camera team kept shooting.

“This is where Mommy’s been living for a while,” Amber told her daughter.

The Hollywood Gossip reported that Portwood promised to maintain her relationship with Gary Shirley and their little girl despite facing five long years in jail.

Another ‘Teen Mom’ cast member appeared to be going the tear-filled way of Amber Portwood. Jenelle Evans and Gary Head were recently arrested for assaulting each other and possessing marijuana and a “controlled substance.” The couple broke up for the umpteenth time after they were released following the payment of bonds.

On Thursday, Amber Portwood checked into prison for the first day of a five-year sentence that she claimed was the only thing that would save her life.

TMZ reported that the ‘Teen Mom‘ star officially checked in to an Indiana jail on Thursday morning. Sources in Indiana law enforcement informed TMZ that the police moved 22-year-old Amber Portwood from a local jail to the Rockville Correctional Facility at approximately 7:45 AM. She will serve out a 5-year sentence that stemmed from her arrest last December.

TMZ was the first to break the story on how a judge sentenced Portwood to 5 years in prison for drug possession back in January of this year. The judge then offered to let the ‘Teen Mom’ star enter a drug rehab program instead of spending years behind bars.

Amber Portwood accepted the offer and went into rehab. However, she recently skipped on a drug court-mandated hearing, and then tried to cover her absence up by claiming that her doctor ordered her to get bed rest.

Afterwards, Amber Portwood decided to serve out her original 5-year sentence. The ‘Teen Mom’ cast member claimed that drug rehab depressed her so much that she tried to commit suicide by overdosing on pills. According to her, only imprisonment would save her life because it would force her to go cold turkey.

Amber Portwood of ‘Teen Mom’ claimed that she tried to commit suicide while struggling with her drug addiction.

E! News reported that the reality star was talking to to ABC News about how her life took a turn for the worse while starring on the hit MTV series ‘Teen Mom.’ Portwood revealed  that she recently tried to kill herself by overdosing on a drug used to treat opioid withdrawal.

“I took 30 Suboxone within three days,” said Amber Portwood. ”The depression took over,” she explained. “I’d just take four to five at a time underneath my tongue and nod out.”

According to a report by E! News, her boyfriend Gary Shirley called 911 to report that Portwood was threatening to kill herself. The ‘Teen Mom’ star was subsequently rushed to the hospital. Shirley now has custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Leah.

She also explained why she preferred her original jail sentence to completing a drug treatment program. ”I had more than addiction problems,” Amber Portwood added. “I had, you know, mental problems, too.”

Portwood was first introduced to television viewers by ‘Teen Mom,’ a spinoff from MTV’s 16 and ‘Pregnant.’ She claimed that the sudden fame of being a reality star and having her personal life appear on TV kept her from truly getting back on track when she entered drug rehab.

“In my situation,” Amber Portwood said, “I felt in the program there were a lot of eyes on me. And it was uncomfortable.”

Portwood felt that people were staring at her and talking about her when she was not on the set of ‘Teen Mom.’ And that was during a time when she supposedly did not use her anti-psych medication.

“You get paranoid,” she said. “It’s not normal,” she added, “To always be paranoid.”

Amber Portwood said she didn’t regret her choice to abandon drug treatment in favor of prison. The ‘Teen Mom’ star believed that her incarceration will help her to focus on her recovery.

“You know,” she told ABC News, “I was very depressed, all alone, all bitter at everybody.” Portwood felt like that it wasn’t the life she wanted to live. “I felt like I’d rather do my time and get it over with,” she said, “And make the best out of the situation that’s been handed to me.”

Since she won’t be appearing on ‘Teen Mom’ for a while, Amber Portwood intended to make most of her time behind bars.

“I’m going to take some classes,” she shared. Portwood planned to get her GED and take as many programs as she could. “You know,” she shared, “Just try to better myself for when I do get out and not stay in prison…”

By the time she leaves jail, Amber Portwood hoped that she will be off the drugs and have an education to get me a job. “You have to think of the positives in this negative story,” she said.

The interview with ABC News was the first jailhouse interview for Amber Portwood since the ‘Teen Mom’ star was sentenced this Tuesday to five years in prison for violating her probation.

Reality star Amber Portwood from “Teen Mom” has been sentenced to serve five years of jail time stemming from her drug arrest in May.

According to reports, 22-year-old Amber Portwood will be inside an Indiana prison after the ruling of Madison County, Indiana, Circuit Judge David Happe on Tuesday. The “Teen Mom” star is said to be serving jail time
after she pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge. Portwood dodged prison by bargaining a plea deal which included drug rehab. Unfortunately, she dropped out of the said program last month.

Prosecuting Attorney Rodney Cummings said that Amber Portwood was arrested on the 24th of May due to violation of her drug court probation requirements when she failed a urine test and then lied about it. The said violation might not have caused revocation of her probation, because probationers are usually given two or three opportunities, but then again Portwood “just opted out,” Cummings said. “I just don’t think she knew opting out meant five years jail time.”

Cummings added that Amber Portwood will most likely spend two and a half years of jail time before being released on parole for the remaining time of her five years. Prisoners get a day deducted from their jail time for each day served successfully. It might be possible that the reality star could get another 30-day reduction for completing a drug rehab program while she is in prison. Cummings also said that the commitment order might take two weeks before it is signed by the judge and before Amber Portwood is transported from the Madison County jail to state corrections department custody.

The reality star’s first run-in with the law was when she got arrested due to felony domestic violence charges back in November 2010 because of the incidents seen on her reality TV show “Teen Mom.” She was seen shoving, slapping, choking and punching her boyfriend, Gary Shirley. Portwood was arrested again on December when a probation search found “a fairly sufficient amount of several different prescription pills” which were not prescribed to her.

After her December arrest, Amber Portwood spent more than one month of jail time before reaching a plea deal on her felony drug charge, which included going to a drug rehab program.

The three-year-old daughter of Portwood is currently in the custody of the kid’s father, Gary Shirley.

Amber Portwood had reportedly given up on drug rehab and turned to prison as the last resort against her addiction to the drug Suxobone

Sources in law enforcement informed TMZ that the last drug test of the ‘Teen Mom’ star came out shortly after Portwood returned to prison. Portwood reportedly tested positive for the opiate-based drug Suboxone, a highly-addictive cousin of the painkiller morphine.

According to TMZ’s source in the police, Amber Portwood herself admitted that she could not resist the allure of the drug. She reportedly revealed that she bought Suboxone during her court-ordered drug rehab program.

TMZ reported that Portwood hoped to go clean is in prison. She supposedly believed that, unlike in drug rehab, a stint in jail will force her to go cold turkey and help her kick her addiction to Suxobone .

The ‘Teen Mom’ cast member was originally slated to spend up to five years in prison. Amber Portwood struck a deal to undergo drug rehab but recently skipped a court-mandated hearing, which landed her back behind bars.

Amber Portwood will be spending the next few weeks in prison waiting for a judge’s decision on her sentence.

At least Amber Portwood is honest about being a “bad girl” and a jail bird.

According to Gossip Cop, the ‘Teen Mom‘ star appeared in an Indiana court on Thursday. She reportedly asked the judge to remove her from a drug rehab program because she didn’t believe that she could complete it. She also suggested that the judge make arrangements to incarcerate her for the long term.

TMZ reported that Amber Portwood made the surprising request after admitting she was a “bad girl.” She apparently preferred to simply complete her  five-year prison sentence instead of the drug rehab alternative provided by the court.

Portwood had previously been on probation for attacking baby daddy Gary Shirley when she was arrested for drug possession. The court struck a deal with the ‘Teen Mom’ star: If she underwent drug rehab, she would not be imprisoned.

Amber Portwood agreed to the new terms, but she quickly slipped. She recently skipped a drug court mandated hearing, pleading doctor’s orders for bed rest following a gall bladder surgery. The court, however, investigated her alibi and found out that she had lied about the surgery and bed rest orders, and she was imprisoned anew.

As the premiere of the next -and final- season of ‘Teen Mom’ approached, Amber Portwood remained behind bars in a Madison County jai.

Now that Amber Portwood  has gotten out of jail, she plans to improve her image by joining the military.

According to TMZ, the troubled ‘Teen Mom’ star ended up back in prison last week after she broke the terms of her probation by skipping out on a mandated appearance in an Indiana drug court.

The 22-year-old Amber Portwood allegedly lied about recently undergoing a gall bladder operation that confined her to bed in order to escape a mandatory drug test. However, her probation officer called the bluff and went to her doctor, who denied ever having given her orders to stay in bed.

Booked for breaking her word in court,  Portwood provided some very sleepy-eyed mug shots. She was released last Thursday.

Asked by E! News what she feels now that she’s back on the other side, the ‘Teen Mom’ star said she was “OK. Just hustling. I’ve got a lot on my plate,” Amber Portwood added.

Her brother, Shawn Portwood, informed TMZ that Amber’s “new goal is to join the military.” ”She was going to work hard to get her charge reduced,” Shawn said of his sister. “She’s been doing so well.”

The fourth and final season of ‘Teen Mom’ -which Amber Portwood will probably join- will debut on June 12.

Amber Portwood is in trouble yet again. The Hollywood Gossip reported that the ‘Teen Mom‘ star recently returned behind bars for lying about a medical condition to evade a mandated appearance in drug court.

If the court proves that she lied about the reason she skipped drug court, Amber Portwood could face serious punishment.

Portwood reportedly told local officials that she couldn’t report for drug testing because her doctor ordered her to take several weeks of bed rest after she underwent gall bladder surgery. The officials called her bluff, however, and her doctor told them that he issued no such order.

The possible result: More jail time- and less, if any, screen time on the fourth and final season of ‘Teen Mom’ starting this June.

Amber Portwood had previously been a no-show for drug testing back in March. She spent her 22nd birthday behind bars.
