Bobby Brown charged after second suspected DUI
October 26th, 2012 by faye
Former New Edition member Bobby Brown has already been charged by city prosecutors on Thursday with multiple misdemeanors following his arrest in Tarzana this week on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Los Angeles city attorney’s office spokesman Frank Mateljan said that 43-year-old Bobby Brown was charged with driving under the influence with a prior and refusing to undergo a chemical test, driving on a restricted license due to alcohol/drugs and operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device.
Previous reports have stated that Brown — who was the former husband of late diva Whitney Houston — was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of driving while inebriated, making it the R&B singer’s second arrest in the San Fernando Valley in just seven months.
Los Angeles police officers pulled over Bobby Brown near the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Corbin Avenue about 1AM. When they approached the singer’s vehicle, they smelled alcohol, authorities said. Brown was subsequently booked for drunk driving and released.
This is not the first time “My Prerogative” singer Bobby Brown had a run-in with the law. Back in March, he was also pulled over near Victory Boulevard and Wilbur Avenue after police officers saw him talking on his mobile phone. Authorities arrested him after administering a field sobriety test. He pleaded no contest to misdemeanor driving under the influence in connection with that arrest and was sentenced to three years’ probation.
Brown’s March arrest came just four days after the Los Angeles County coroner’s office publicly released the results of its autopsy on Whitney Houston.
Bobby Brown is due in Van Nuys Superior Court on November 16. In case he is convicted of the misdemeanor charges, he could face a year in jail and/or $7,000 in fines. He may also face up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $610 for violating probation for his March arrest.
Bobby Brown arrested again on suspicion of drunk driving

R&B singer-songwriter Bobby Brown has been arrested for the second time this year due to suspicion of driving under the influence — yet again.
According to Los Angeles police spokeswoman Venus Hall, 43-year-old Bobby Brown was pulled over around 1AM in the Topanga area when police officers spotted the singer driving erratically on an Los Angeles street.
Law enforcement sources said that police officers approached the vehicle of Bobby Brown and detected a strong smell of alcohol, at which point they asked the singer to get out of his car.
Reports said that Brown was asked to undergo a field sobriety test, but didn’t do very well, so he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was booked at the Van Nuys prison, but was also released a while later.
A representative for the singer could not be immediately contacted.
Bobby Brown was previously arrested for DUI charges in Los Angeles back in March and pleaded no contest. Under a plea agreement, he checked himself into a rehabilitation center in August to seek treatment for his alcohol abuse issues. He also has a DUI conviction on his record from 1996.
Brown started his singing career as one of the frontmen of the pop group New Edition, from its inception as The Bricks in 1978 until his forced exit from the group in 1986 following a period of misbehavior on his part. Starting a solo career, he became a hit success with his second album, “Don’t Be Cruel,” which created a number of hit singles including the co-self penned “My Prerogative,” which became his signature hit. Bobby Brown had a series of top ten hits on various Billboard charts between 1986 and 1992, and is a recipient of a Grammy Award. He is noted as a pioneer of New Jack Swing music, a fusion of hip-hop and R&B.
Brown was most noted in recent years as the ex-husband of pop singer Whitney Houston. He and Houston later gained notoriety co-starring in the reality show, “Being Bobby Brown.” He has a daughter named Bobbi Kristina with her.
Bobby Brown declares himself 21 days sober after rehab stint
September 4th, 2012 by faye
R&B singer-songwriter Bobby Brown is finally out of the rehab facility and doing well, claiming he has been sober for 21 days now.
According to reports, the 43-year-old troubled singer slammed reports that he had left rehab early on Sunday night telling fans, “I’m seven and a half years off narcotics, 21 days clean of alcohol and I go by Bad Ass Bobby Brown.”
Brown, who was busted by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol last March, entered a rehab facility on August to battle alcohol issues. However, he left the rehab only after two weeks, prompting rumors that he had not completed his prescribed treatment.
On Sunday night Bobby Brown performed in Orlando alongside R&B group New Edition and proudly told a sell-out crowd about his new-found sobriety.
Brown, a father of five children, was on stage performing with his former group, despite his new wife Alicia Etheredge — who is also his manager — being rushed to the hospital hours earlier after she suffered a diabetic seizure in the couple’s Florida hotel room.
Bobby Brown and Alicia Etheredge, who have three-year-old Cassius together, exchanged their vows in Hawaii in June after the crooner proposed to her at a New Edition concert back in 2010.
Over the weekend, the hitmaker tweeted: “The report that my wife was rushed to the hospital is true. She is recovering and is in good spirits and doing well. Please keep my family in your prayers.”
Bobby Brown went to the rehab facility on August 14 as part of a plea deal following his March arrest in Los Angeles.
In a statement, attorney Christopher Brown said, “Mr. Brown takes his agreement very seriously and admitted himself three weeks after concluding his honeymoon in Mexico during a break from the New Edition tour.”
“Bobby is doing well and receiving services that comply with his agreement with the State of California,” Christopher added.
Bobbi Kristina wishes her father well in rehab
August 17th, 2012 by faye
Bobbi Kristina — the daughter of the late diva Whitney Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown — has reached out to her father who is currently inside a rehab facility, insisting that she wishes him “well” as he attempts to battle with his addiction issues once and for all.
According to previous reports this week, it was revealed that 43-year-old Bobby Brown has enrolled himself in a treatment centre, with reports suggesting that he is tackling alcohol issues.
Bobbi Kristina Brown has been rumored to be in bad terms with her father, but argues that she has no issues with her dad and wants him to overcome his struggles in life.
In a post on her Twitter page, Bobbi Kristina wrote: “W/e (Whatever) you hear, I love my father, very much & wish him well in all!! No beef at all.”
Meanwhile, the lawyer of Bobby Brown released a statement regarding the crooner’s trip to rehab. The statement, given to U.S magazine Us Weekly, read: “Mr. Brown takes his agreement very seriously. Bobby is doing well…”
Alicia Etheridge, the wife of Bobby Brown added, “Bobby’s children and loved ones are very proud of him. We appreciate his fans’ prayers and well wishes. Bobby is mentally in a good place.”
In late 2003, Brown was arrested for misdemeanor battery after he allegedly struck Whitney Houston while shouting epithets. In February 2004, the singer was arrested and imprisoned in Georgia on a parole violation related to a previous driving under the influence of alcohol conviction. In June 2004, Brown was sentenced to 90 days in jail for missing three months of child support payments, but that sentence was suspended right away after he made back payments totaling about $15,000.
Back in March 26, 2012, Brown was arrested for DUI after being pulled over for allegedly using his mobile phone while driving.
Bobby Brown enters rehab for alcohol addiction
August 15th, 2012 by faye
R&B singer-songwriter Bobby Brown has just entered a rehab facility to get treatment for his alcohol addiction.
According to reports, Alicia Etheredge — who married 43-year-old Bobby Brown just two months ago — said that the singer is doing well at the rehab facility. Brown is receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction problems, because he reportedly “realized he couldn’t do it on his own.” The singer has been battling alcohol abuse issues for many years now.
A source close to Bobby Brown added, “he decided that he needed help and wants to make the best out of the rest of his life for his children’s sake.”
However, it is unclear where the singer is receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction.
Previous reports have stated that Bobby Brown was arrested due to driving under the influence in March — barely a month after his ex-wife Whitney Houston passed away after suffering from a heart attack partly brought on by her cocaine abuse.
The news of Brown going to rehab comes after the “Two Can Play That Game” hitmaker recently insisted he did not introduce Whitney Houston to drugs and felt “hurt” by such allegations as he claims he has been sober for a long time now.
Bobby Brown said, “It’s just unexplainable … how one could, you know, [say that I] got her addicted to drugs. I’m not the reason she’s gone.”
“I was hurt … because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years – I felt that she was, you know, I didn’t know she was struggling with it still. But at the same time, you know – listen, it’s a hard fight,” added the crooner.
Bobby Brown and Houston — who have a 19-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina — were married from 1992 to 2007 and had an erratic relationship destroyed by drug abuse and accusations of violence.
Brown started his career as one of the frontmen of the pop group “New Edition,” from its beginning as “The Bricks” in 1978, until his forced exit from the group in 1986 after a period of misbehavior on his part. After starting a solo career, he became a hit success with his second album, “Don’t Be Cruel,” which produced several hit singles, including the co-self penned “My Prerogative,” which became his signature hit. Bobby Brown also had a string of top ten hits on various Billboard charts between 1986 and 1992, and is a recipient of a Grammy Award. He is noted as a pioneer of New Jack Swing music, a fusion of hip-hop and R&B.
Bobbi Kristina Brown snubs June wedding of her dad Bobby Brown
June 28th, 2012 by edsel
The June 18 wedding of Bobby Brown and Alicia Etheridge was marred by the absence of the groom’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.
The Hollywood Gossip reported that the only daughter of the late Whitney Houston was known to hate her father. Bobbi Kristina even contemplated a name change at one point to increase the distance between them.
A source informed Us Weekly that Bobby Brown tried to reach out to his estranged daughter through a “go-between.” He asked Bobbi Kristina to attend his new nuptials because he wanted to be at peace with his daughter. But according to the Hollywood Gossip, Bobbi Kristina “told them she was not going because she did not like Alicia.” The troubled teen also declared that “she was [busy] filming her reality show with Pat Houston in New York” and wasn’t able to attend the wedding of Bobby Brown even if she wanted to.
The Us Weekly source also claimed that Bobbi Kristina Brown and her aunt Pat Houston have grown very close. The sister and former manager of Whitney Houston was “trying to act like a mother figure” to Bobbi Kristina.
“Pat does not like Bobby Brown,” the source said. Whitney’s sister was reportedly “pleased that Bobbi Kristina did not go to the wedding” of her father. Pat Houston supposedly felt that Bobbi’s father “will always try and take advantage of her.”
The Hollywood Gossip reported that the tragic death of Whitney Houston on February 11 catapulted her daughter into the spotlight. Bobbi Kristina broke down so badly after her mother died that she needed to be rushed to the hospital on numerous occasions.
“She was really her mom’s caretaker,” the Us Weekly source said of Bobbi Kristina Brown, “And biggest cheerleader and biggest fan.” The source expressed uncertainty at how Bobbi “will be able to go on” without Whitney Houston.
The last days of Whitney Houston as told by Vanity Fair
May 7th, 2012 by edsel
The June issue of Vanity Fair unveils even more facts about the last days of late singer Whitney Houston. E! News reports that the magazine issue -which will go on sale this week- drew its information from sources and friends close to the deceased diva.
Like many stars, Whitney Houston apparently used a secret identity to protect her privacy. A week before her scheduled appearance at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party, Whitney and a small group arrived at the Beverly Hilton. Vanity Fair reported that Whitney checked in using the pseudonym ‘Elizabeth Collins.’
And according to her friends, Whitney was also working on getting clean. She had reconnected with her drug counselor Warren Boyd just before she died.
Her friends also dismissed earlier reports of the supposed ‘spectacle’ of Whitney Houston doing handstands alongside the pool of the Beverly Hilton during her final week. They claimed to Vanity Fair that such behavior was not erratic or drug-addled, but proof of Whitney starting fresh. Houston’s handstands were the results of her daily exercise and vow to quit smoking.
Whitney’s friends also explained the eruption in the Beverly Hilton gift shop. Whitney Houston had spotted a National Enquirer headline that declared, “Whitney Collapses! Strung Out & Broke, It’s Worse Than Anyone Thought!” The sobered-up singer simply took the criticism too hard.
Vanity Fair reported that Whitney Houston was also preparing for a comeback. She entered the studio the Tuesday before her death to work on ‘Celebrate,’ her duet with Jordin Sparks for their movie ‘Sparkle.’
She was also involved with other men. During her divorce with Bobby Brown, Whitney’s estranged husband hooked up with video vixen Karrine Steffans. Steffans recalled that Bobby Brown received a phone call from Ray J, on-off lover of Whitney Houston.
“He said, ‘Is Bob still staying you?’” Karrine Steffans recounted to Vanity Fair. “I said, ‘Yeah, he’s right here.’ And Ray said, ‘Tell him I f–ked both of his chicks, you and now his wife.’”
In addition to Ray J, Whitney Houston hung out with Grammy nominee Kelly Price. Just two nights before her death, Whitney accompanied Price at an event at Tru nightclub.
After taking to stage to sing ‘Jesus Loves Me,’ Whitney reportedly confronted ‘X Factor’ performer Stacy Francis. According to Vanity Fair, Whitney allegedly shouted “This is my man!” at Stacy Francis, whom she suspected was trailing Price. “I’m a cougar! Bitch, get away from my man!”
Photograpers caught Whitney Houston on her way out of the club with scratched and bruised legs. Stacy Francis later called the encounter “a misunderstanding.”
Finally, Vanity Fair revealed why officials took so long to remove Houston’s body from her Beverly Hilton hotel room. According to the magazine’s account, it wasn’t than any red tape or incompetence, but Whitney’s heartbroken family and friends.
Cousin Dionne Warwick was the calmest of Whitney’s family. She took time to shake hands with coroner Ed Winter. ”I know Mr. Winter will take good care of Whitney,” she told everyone present.
“Thank you for taking such good care of Michael Jackson,” Dionne told Eric Winter.
Vanity Fair said that Eric Winter waited until the early hours of the night before removing the body of Whitney Houston because it took that long to clear the lobby of the likes of Tom Hanks, Diddy, Neil Young, and Tony Bennett.
And even after the lobby was cleared, Whitney’s family wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to her. Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina required her own medical assistance, and sister-in-law Pat Houston suffered “kind of an anxiety attack.”
“The family wanted to maybe spend a few minutes with her before we loaded her off,” Eric Winter told Vanity Fair regarding the grieving family of Whitney Houston.
Bobby Brown says he’s “not the reason” why Whitney Houston died
May 3rd, 2012 by edsel
“I’m not the reason she’s gone,” Bobby Brown stated on the ‘Today Show’ this Monday regarding the late Whitney Houston. Gossip Center reported that this is the R&B singer’s first interview since his ex-wife’s death. He told ‘Today’ host Matt Lauer that he’s “very much clean and sober from narcotics.”
He also tells Lauer about the last time he set eyes upon Whitney Houston and how he reacted when he heard she had died.
Matt Lauer brought up the general speculation that Brown is the reason the late singer’s life took a turn for the worse. “It makes me feel terrible,” Bobby Brown replies.
“If anyone ever knew us, if anybody ever spent time around us instead of time looking through the bubble, they would know how we felt about each other. They would know how happy we were together,” Brown insists to Lauer.
Bobby Brown last saw Whitney Houston a week before she died. “she had this glow about her that was just, you know, incredible,” he relates. “I’m saying to myself, you know, ‘She must be … she must be doing really well,’ because she looked really well.” He then added that he thought she was in a “good place.”
Brown and Houston were married for 15 years. Bobby Brown refutes accusations that he introduced Whitney Houston to narcotics.
“I didn’t get high [on narcotics] before I met Whitney,” Brown defends himself. “I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs at all.”
He added that he found it painful to see Whitney Houston suffering and eventually losing her life because of drug abuse.
“I was hurt. I was hurt… because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years, I felt that she was, you know, I didn’t know she was struggling with it still,” Bobby Brown shares. “But at the same time, you know, listen, it’s a hard fight. It’s a hard fight to, you know, maintain sobriety that way.”
The 43-year-old performer said his ex-wife’s death was the result of one day of cocaine use, and not a long term effect. Bobby Brown based his opinion on the last glimpse he had of Whitney Houston.
“It had to be that one, because that’s all it takes,” Brown warns. ”One hit, you know … it could definitely take your life away from you. And, unfortunately, that was it.”
Bobby Brown makes plea bargain in DUI case
April 27th, 2012 by faye
R&B singer-songwriter Bobby Brown cops a plea deal in his DUI arrest last month, and has been awarded no additional jail time.
According to prosecutors from the city attorney’s office, 43-year-old Bobby Brown, former husband of the late diva Whitney Houston, has been sentenced to three years of probation and a day in Los Angeles County jail. He pleaded no contest on Wednesday to one count of driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher, stemming from his DUI arrest last month. In exchange, the prosecutors dropped the DUI charge.
Bobby Brown will not be serving additional time behind bars for his DUI arrest because he already got credit for the time he served in jail. He was also fined $390 and must attend a 90-day alcohol education program.
The singer was arrested on March 26 near Victory Boulevard and Wilbur Avenue after a California Highway Patrol officer pulled him over for using his mobile while driving. Bobby Brown was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. The R&B singer faced a maximum of a year in county jail if convicted for his DUI arrest.
Brown is represented by attorney Tiffany Feder. His DUI arrest came four days after the Los Angeles County coroner’s office released the results of its autopsy of Brown’s ex-wife, Whitney Houston.
Bobby Brown, who was married to the “I Will Always Love You” singer for 14 years before their divorce in 2007, reportedly had numerous legal troubles, which includes a 1996 DUI arrest due to a drunk driving incident in Florida. Much of the former couple’s marital dispute and legal woes were played out in public, including a 2005 reality show called “Being Bobby Brown.”
Bobby Brown started his career as one of the frontmen of the pop group New Edition, from its inception as The Bricks in 1978 until his forced exit from the group in 1986 following a period of misbehavior on his part. Starting a solo career, he became a hit success with his second album, Don’t Be Cruel, which spawned a number of hit singles including the co-self penned “My Prerogative”, which became his signature hit.
Bobby Brown pleads not guilty to drunk driving case
April 18th, 2012 by faye
Singer-songwriter Bobby Brown has reportedly pleaded not guilty to his drunk driving case and has been given a full ban on booze by a judge handling his case.
Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Rebecca Owens said, “Mr. Brown is not to consume anything of an alcoholic nature.” Owens scheduled Brown’s pretrial hearing for his drunk driving case to May 16.
The singer’s lawyer, Tiffany Feder, initially accepted the alcohol ban, but then returned an hour later to argue the decision on the drunk driving case. Feder insisted that the limitation was an overkill since his blood alcohol level “wasn’t excessively high” at the time of his arrest last month, adding that Bobby Brown had no previous DUI case in California.
City prosecutor Diego Edber responded, saying, “We believe he has an extensive history of substance abuse. Even though it may not be current, (the restriction is) probably not a bad idea for public safety.”
“It is a standard condition in this court when a defendant has this type of profile, and he is under a lot of stress at this point,” Judge Owens said. “It looks like your client has had a history (using) substances when under pressure. So it is going to remain.”
Attorney Feder filed not guilty pleas to all charges on behalf of Bobby Brown, but declined to elaborate his feelings about the drunk driving case other than to say, “He’s doing well.”
As previous reports have stated, 43-year-old Bobby Brown was arrested by the cops last month when they saw that he was driving while talking on his mobile phone. When the singer was pulled over, police officers had a suspicion that he was under the influence of alcohol, so they decided to give Bobby Brown a field sobriety test. Brown blew a .12, which is past the legal limit in California.
Bobby Brown is facing three misdemeanors, including driving with a suspended license. His two charges of driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level greater than .08 are essentially merged into one for purposes of potential sentencing, prosecutors said.
“His total exposure is up to a year (in jail) and $1,000 for each count,” City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said.
Judge Owens said that Brown’s license remains suspended by the DMV, and that he must appear in court in person next month, unless he provides proof the suspension has been lifted.
The singer, who’s due to marry the mother of his youngest child in the coming weeks, was also involved in a drunk driving case in 1996 and sentenced to five days of jail time after crashing Whitney Houston’s Porsche with a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.
Bobby Brown served more jail time in 2000 after a court-ordered drug test came back positive with cocaine.
