Deena Cortese from “Jersey Shore” gets two-year ban from NJ bar

Reality star Deena Cortese from the show “Jersey Shore” has just been slapped with a two-year ban from a New Jersey bar that fueled her with the booze, leading to her drunken arrest back in June. The said bar has also been hit with a $15k fine for over-serving Cortese.
According to reports, officials from the New Jersey’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control announced the deal on Thursday, stating that they have fined a Seaside Heights cantina called Spicy Cantina & Mexican Grill a total amount of $15,000 for serving a “visibly intoxicated” Deena Cortese just before she wandered out into traffic back in June.
As a condition of an agreement negotiated with the cantina, the “Jersey Shore” reality star is banned from the premises for a period of two years.
The New Jersey’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control said that Deena Cortese and an entourage which included an MTV film crew were at the restaurant for 90 minutes on June 10. At the time, Cortese walked on the bar, fell to the ground, then climbed up and proceeded standing on a red bench at a table of restaurant patrons. Deena Cortese also reportedly left the Spicy Cantina & Mexican Grill with an alcoholic beverage, walked onto the boardwalk and then returned to the bar a short while later.
“This settlement is a cautionary tale for licensees who might think ignoring the law for the sake of air time is good for business,” said Michael Halfacre, the division’s director. “By turning a blind eye to the mayhem that can be associated with reality television, you are risking your livelihood. That is, without a doubt, bad for business.”
As previous reports have stated, 25-year-old Deena Cortese was arrested by Seaside Heights police due to disorderly conduct. Police reports said that she was seen running out of Spicy Cantina & Mexican Grill and into the street. Cortese then began dancing in the intersection and appeared to be heavily drunk after losing her balance multiple times, the alcohol division said. She proceeded walking down a street, grabbed the trunk of a vehicle and went on dancing.
Seaside Heights Police said that Cortese’s behavior was seriously limiting the flow of traffic, so they decided to place her under arrest. Afterwards, “Jersey Shore” Deena Cortese star told police she had been drinking throughout the day.
During a municipal court appearance a month later, Deena Cortese pleaded guilty to failure of using the sidewalk and paid a fine worth $106. She apologized to the court, then got a talking-to from her mother. She also had to pay $33 in court costs, but had luckily dodged a criminal conviction by pleading guilty to a violation of the motor vehicle code.
In the settlement with the state, Spicy Cantina & Mexican Grill also admitted serving alcoholic beverage to Deena Cortese that she did not order, which is illegal in New Jersey. Four employees from the restaurant submitted a letter to the alcohol division explaining that the reality star was served one alcoholic drink — a vodka and club soda — then was deemed to be intoxicated by the bar management.
According to the letter, after cutting off Deena Cortese, “she was served several shots of water, which she thought contained alcohol. She was also served non-alcoholic drink mix with fruit garnish. She drank multiple glasses without realizing that she was not drinking alcohol.”
The business now faces a ten-day suspension of its liquor license if it violates state alcohol laws over the next two years.
Deena Cortese fined for not using the sidewalk

“Jersey Shore” cast member Deena Cortese has been slapped with a fine following her arrest last month for “failing to use the sidewalk.”
As previous reports have stated, the reality star was arrested by the police on June 10 when Deena Cortese danced in a roadway, causing an interruption with the flow of traffic at Seaside Heights. She was subsequently bailed out by her parents later that day as well.
After the incident, Deena Cortese got a talking-to from her mother outside the municipal court where the reality star pleaded guilty to failing to use the sidewalk. She was given a fine of $106.
“He doesn’t want to see you in that courtroom again,” Deena’s mom, Joann Cortese, said, referring to the judge who had imposed the fine against the reality star. The two hugged and kissed goodbye – on the sidewalk.
“Love you,” her mom said, to which Deena Cortese replied, “Love you, too.”
Deena Cortese was also required to pay $33 in court costs, but luckily avoided a criminal conviction when she pleaded guilty to a violation of the motor vehicle code. Municipal prosecutor Kim Pascarella said the prosecution did not have sufficient evidence to prove the charge against Deena. Instead, they agreed to allow Deena to plead guilty to a lesser offense of failing to use the sidewalk when one was provided.
“I’m sorry if I caused any trouble,” the reality star said, standing before the same bench where co-star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi pleaded guilty to disturbing other beachgoers back in 2010.
Municipal Court Judge Dan Sahin reprimanded Deena Cortese for diverting the police officers from more pressing concerns.
“Ms. Cortese, please keep in mind you’re taking police officers away from a job they have to do,” the judge said. “Responding to the call, investigating, arresting her and bringing her back to police headquarters all took valuable time that could have better been spent serving others who needed help,” he added.
“The officers here are not the New York City Police Department; we’re not 1,000-strong. They’ve got a tough job to do,” Sahin said.
Deena Cortese hugged her mother and wiped away her tears as she waited in line with her lawyer, Michael Pappa, to pay the fine at the court clerk’s window. Pappa said that the police report stated that the reality star appeared to have been drinking before the “dancing on the street” incident. On her personal website, Cortese refers to herself as “The Blast In A Glass.”
“Deena was in the middle of the road. Traffic was at a standstill because of summer congestion. She knew she made a mistake and she regrets what she did,” Pappa told The Associated Press.
“She took this situation very seriously,” he added. “She was very upset about getting arrested and having to go to the police station, and she was very apologetic to the police officers.”
The judge also added that Deena Cortese put herself and others in danger because of her conduct.
“By going into traffic as she did, she placed herself in harm’s way and quite possibly placed others in harm’s way,” Sahin said.
Deena Cortese, a native of the New Egypt section of New Jersey’s Plumsted township, has been a friend of Snooki for a long time. Cortese joined the cast of “Jersey Shore” during its third season when cast member Angelina Pivarnick left. The cast of the reality show is nearing the end of its sixth season of filming in and around Seaside Heights.
