Former “Lost” star Dominic Monaghan took a swing at the TV show “Swamp People,” claiming that it must be stopped and that it is nothing more than “shock TV” that glorifies the senseless killing of alligators.

According to reports, 35-year-old Monaghan took to Twitter his thoughts on Wednesday about the History Channel show “Swamp People,” a reality show featuring a group of “swampers” in the Atchafalaya Swamp in Louisiana during the 30-day alligator hunting season.

Dominic Monaghan wrote, “If my hero #steveirwin was around those shows about killing alligators wouldn’t be on tv. I’m gonna stop them. Watch this space.” The actor then added, “If alligator populations need to be controlled I understand but the act should not be glorified on tv.disgusting.These are living creatures.”

The “Lost” star went on discussing the “Swamp People” issue with his Twitter followers, even calling the program “a show about rednecks killing gators.” Monaghan added that small alligators do not pose any threat to humans. The actor also pointed out that he takes issue with “continuing the demonization of crocodilians” and how the show does not really educate but is, instead, a “shock tv.”

“As I said I blame the network not the people.i consider it tortuous to stalk net n shoot an intelligent animal,” the actor tweeted. Dominic Monaghan also emphasized that he is not the biggest fan of “Deadliest Catch” either, but that he has less issues with the Discovery hit because “at least you don’t see these animals shot at.”

History Channel has not yet responded to a request for comment regarding the thoughts of Dominic Monaghan about their show.

The actor received quite some heat from his Twitter followers regarding his comments about “Swamp People,” but he still seemed to take all of it in stride.

“I genuinely love haters.they hone my skills.they teach me things.they make me smile.they help me change.i love love interacting with them,” Dominic Monaghan tweeted.

The actor, who is a self-confessed animal lover, is currently working on a new travel show for BBC America called “Wild Things With Dominic Monaghan,” which will be featuring the “Lord of the Rings” star searching for interesting creatures in various parts of the globe. A premiere date for this show has not been announced yet.
