NFL star Elvis Dumervil arrested due to road rage incident
Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil has been arrested by the authorities after he allegedly flashed a gun at another motorist during a road rage incident in Miami.
According to the police report, an argument ensued on Southbound Collins Avenue, just one block away from South Beach. A woman, who was behind the wheels of a white Chevy, suddenly merged in front of a gray Range Rover (driven by Elvis Dumervil) which was followed by a gray Mercedes. The merging driver, who was identified later as Kristine Ramirez, was halted in traffic when a reported verbal altercation broke out between her and the drivers of the two other cars.
The police added that after the merging, the passenger of the Mercedes named Andy Auguste got out of the car, walked up to the vehicle of Ramirez, and started threatening her verbally, subsequently lifting his shirt to show that he had a firearm tucked in his waistband. The said firearm was discovered on the floor of the Mercedes when the police officers searched the car.
Kristine Ramirez, the victim, said that Elvis Dumervil — who was driving the Range Rover — got out of his car as well and walked up to her car. Police said that the NFL star threatened the passengers of the vehicle by lifting his shirt and showing a gun that was tucked in his waistband.
When the police arrived at the scene of the alleged road rage, they asked Elvis Dumervil if he had a gun with him, to which the football player said no. But, a firearm was discovered by the cops in the glove compartment of his Range Rover. However, some reports say that neither the gun nor the vehicle belonged to Elvis Dumervil.
The police added that the alleged victim, Kristine Ramirez, was frightened by the confrontation and tried to flee the scene of the road rage. Witnesses claim that Ramirez got out of her car after being caught in traffic again, then threw something at the Range Rover of Elvis Dumervil.
9NEWS tried to contact the other alleged assailant, Andy Auguste, on his mobile phone, but said “no comment” and then hung up. 9NEWS left messages for the two alleged victims of the road rage, as well as for Elvis Dumervil, Dumervil’s attorney Harvey Steinberg and a witness.
Steinberg told ESPN, “No charges have been filed. No aggravated assault or assault took place. And it is likely that once the full investigation is complete, no charges will be filed against Mr. Dumervil.”
The Denver Broncos released the statement below regarding the road rage involving Elvis Dumervil:
“Our organization is aware of the matter and is continuing to gather the facts. This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course.”
Dumervil has been a member of the Denver Broncos since 2006. He has a record of 43 sacks in his first four years and was rewarded with a $61.5 million deal prior to the 2010 season. However, Dumervil missed the entire 2010 season because he suffered from a torn pectoral muscle while he was at training camp.
Last year, Elvis Dumervil recorded 9½ sacks.
The Denver Broncos is already going to be without linebacker D.J. Williams, who was recently suspended by the National Football League for the first six games of the regular season due to a violation of the league’s banned substance policy.
The team is scheduled to open training camp in less than two weeks.
