Simon Cowell and Britney Spears received a surprise Father’s Day guest on the ‘X Factor’: KISS bass player Gene Simmons.
TMZ reported that Simmons ‘ daughter, 19-year-old Sophie Simmons, showed up at the reality show’s San Francisco auditions this Sunday. She told Cowell, Spears, and company that she wanted a “fair shot” on the show.
“This isn’t about my dad,” Sophie declared to the ‘X Factor’ judges. “This is about my audition.”
In fact, Gene Simmons almost didn’t make it to his daughter’s auditions. TMZ sources said that Sophie Simmons placed a surprise call to her rocker dad the night before. His daughter by longtime partner Shannon Tweed reportedly told Gene that she couldn’t come home and see him for Father’s Day because she planned to take a shot at the ‘X Factor.’
According to TMZ, Gene Simmons proved to be a devoted dad by immediately hopping onto a private jet and flying straightaway to San Francisco. The KISS front man made it just in time to witness Sophie Simmons performing on the stage.
KISS bassist Gene Simmons slams Rihanna

Gene Simmons, the bassist and co-vocalist of the hard rock band called KISS, has reportedly dissed Rihanna, during a press conference in Hollywood. Gene Simmons was quoted as saying “fake productions of some of today’s biggest pop stars,” and that includes Rihanna.
On Tuesday, the 62-year-old Gene Simmons announced their co-headlining tour with the band Motley Crue, then added that their show would feature live, take-no-prisoners rock and roll. He also slammed Rihanna while promoting their tour.
“We’re sick and tired of girls getting up there with dancers and karaoke tapes in back of them,” Simmons told the reporters at the conference. ” No karaoke singers allowed. No fake bulls–t. Leave that to the Rihanna, Shmianna and anyone who ends their name with an A,” Gene Simmons added.
Later, Gene Simmons‘ cohort, Paul Stanley, took the diss towards Rihanna and other pop stars even further in an interview with CNN: “When you think about a lot of the shows you go to see, they’re not live! You go to these shows and you go, ‘Wow, it sounds just like my album. It IS the album!”
“All they gotta learn is the choreography and lip-syncing,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Motley Crüe’s drummer, Tommy Lee, released a statement with Billboard.com: “No disrespect to Rihanna, she’s a great singer, but we’re in a slump for some s–t that has some personality and appeal beyond a bunch of pop stuff that’s floating around out there. I’m glad he said that actually because I don’t think I can bear watching another f–king award show that is just a little bit better than American Idol. It’s f–king pathetic to watch people go out and f–king karaoke with a bunch of lights and video.”
