Kaoru Suzuki-McMullen, girlfriend of stand-up comedian Jackie Mason, was reportedly arrested and charged with assault and harassment after an alleged altercation at his apartment on Friday.

According to reports, 48-year-old Kaoru Suzuki-McMullen has been charged with two counts of assault in the 3rd degree, and one count of harassment in the 2nd degree, all of which are misdemeanors. The alleged assault stemmed from a dispute that occurred at Jackie Mason’s New York apartment.

Initial reports of the New York Police Department said that it was Kaoru Suzuki-McMullen who accused Jackie Mason of attacking her. However, when the officers arrived at the scene, it was actor Mason who bore signs of assault, with his arms scratched and bruised. Law enforcement agencies said the 75-year-old comedian has not been charged though he and Kaoru were taken to the Midtown North Precinct.

According to a law enforcement source, Kaoru Suzuki-McMullen woke from Mason’s bed and confronted him while he slept on the sofa with allegations that he was cheating on her, which appears to be unsubstantiated. Jackie Mason retaliated and called her “crazy,” reports New York Post. He then reached for his mobile phone to have Kaoru removed by a doorman when she refused to leave his place. The two got into a brawl over the phone, with Suzuki-McMullen accusing Jackie Mason of using it to “beat” her.

Kaoru Suzuki-McMullen was charged with misdemeanor assault and released without bail following an arraignment hearing.

Neighbours in Suzuki-McMullen’s Upper East Side apartment expressed surprise in the news of the woman dating Jackie Mason.

“That she dates Jackie Mason blows my mind,” Ben Cathers, 27, told the New York Daily News, adding, “It’s really wild that the crazy lady in our building is dating a world-famous comic.”

Residents in her building described Kaoru Suzuki-McMullen as a divorcee hoarder, living with a cat and aged beagle – often seen walking the dog in her bathrobe.

“She yells a lot and leaves her garbage in the hall,” Mr Cathers said.
