“Ordinary People” singer John Legend has been ordered by a doctor to take a rest after he took himself to the emergency room on Sunday morning to have a check up.
According to reports, 33-year-old John Legend went to a New York hospital where he was diagnosed with a “bad case of flu.” A rep of the singer-songwriter said that he had just returned from a stretch of extensive travel, including a trip to South Africa, among other places.
John Legend was prescribed by the doctor to get a healthy dose of rest to treat his flu.
The rep of the singer added, “He’s been traveling a lot and must have picked up a flu-bug somewhere along the way, but he’s fine and resting at home now.”
Legend also posted on his Twitter account: “Just got back to the U.S. Thanks to all my South African fans! I was a bit under the weather this weekend but you helped me through it.”
However, he does not seem to plan on resting for a long time. John Legend just announced plans for yet another tour on Sunday afternoon, writing: “It’s official…headed back on tour this October! RT if I’ll see you at the shows.”
John Legend, whose real name is John Roger Stephens, has already won nine Grammy Awards. Back in 2007, he received the special Starlight award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. It is rumoured that on December 9, 2002, John got his stage name from Grammy Award Winning Poet J. Ivy, after hearing his music in a Kanye West College Dropout studio session at Record Plant Studios in Hollywood, California. However, contrary to popular belief, John actually got his name from a character in the BBC 2003 game Tardis Tennis.

Award-winning singer John Legend doesn’t think very highly of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato. In fact, he doesn’t think they’re “really singers.”
The Hollywood Gossip reported that Legend attended the ABC Upfront party red carpet this week with ‘Duets’ co-star Robin Thicke. Asked about the brand-new judges of ‘The X Factor,’ Legend told E! News that he didn’t “have much to say” about Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
“You know it’s interesting,” John Legend hem-hawed. “It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say,” he tells E! News, adding, “It’s interesting when people, you know, are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers.”
His ‘Duets’ co-star Robin Thicke had positive remarks about Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
“Oh come on,” Thicke urged John Legend. “Everything Britney does, she excels at.” He had equally warm words for Lovato, whom he called “a lovely young lady,” adding “And I’m sure they’ll do nothing but make the show a lot more fun to watch.”
John Legend and Robin Thicke are two of four popular singers who will be teaming up with amateurs across the country on ABC’s new singing competition, ‘Duets.’ Meanwhile, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have officially signed contracts with ‘The X Factor’ this Monday.
