Singer-songwriter Lionel Richie owes the U.S government over $1.1 million in unpaid taxes, and now, the Internal Revenue Service has filed a tax lien against him.
According to reports, 62-year-old Lionel Richie has a debt from the federal government of $1,130,609.11 in unpaid income tax for the year 2010.
“I was recently made aware of the situation by my new team, and it’s being handled immediately,” said the “Hello” singer.
The confirmation from the Internal Revenue Service came on the same day that CBS was scheduled to later air “ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends in Concert” after the Academy of Country Music Awards telecast.
The concert is to include solo performances and duets with Lionel Richie, and is to feature a number of his hit songs from his country duets album “Tuskegee,” which debuted last month.
