Madonna booed in New Orleans over Obama support
October 29th, 2012 by faye
Pop superstar Madonna drew boos and triggered a walkout from several concertgoers after showing her support to U.S President Barack Obama on her “MDNA Tour” in New Orleans.
According to reports, 54-year-old Madonna asked the crowd during her Saturday night performance: “Who’s registered to vote?” The pop star added, “I don’t care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama.”
Such statement, touting Obama over GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney clearly drew a lot of boos from the audience. But Madonna still went on, saying: “Seriously, I don’t care who you vote for … Do not take this privilege for granted. Go vote.”
Madonna is often outspoken. Some Colorado fans, mindful of a mass shooting there, complained the “Vogue” singer used a fake gun to shoot a masked gunman in a recent concert act in Denver. A Madonna concert in Paris in July drew criticism and controversy as well when a video showed a swastika on the forehead of French politician Marine Le Pen.
Madonna: “I forgive Elton John”
August 24th, 2012 by faye
Pop singer Madonna may have just called off her beef with British singer Elton John — Madonna reportedly dedicated one of her songs to Elton during a recent concert in France, saying she forgives him for calling her a “fairground stripper.”
According to reports, it all went down on Tuesday night at Nice. Madonna dedicated her song entitled “Masterpiece” to Elton John, saying “I know he’s a big fan of it. And I know he’s a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere.”
As previous reports have stated, 65-year-old Elton John said Madonna “looks like a f***ing fairground stripper” earlier this month during an interview. The “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” singer added, “She’s such a nightmare … Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t have happened to a bigger c***.”
However, reports said that Madonna’s song “Masterpiece” beat out Elton’s “Hello Hello” for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes back in January.
This clearly pissed off Elton John, and his husband David Furnish famously slammed Madonna after bagging the Golden Globe win. Furnish called her “desperate” and added “Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it’s narcissism.”
According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Madonna is the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second top-selling female artist in the United States, with 64 million certified albums. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked her at number two, behind only The Beatles, on the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists. This made Madonna the most successful solo artist in the history of the chart. She was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the same year. In 2012, Madonna was crowned the “Greatest Woman In Music” by VH1.
Russian concert of Madonna threatened by terrorists
August 9th, 2012 by faye
Someone made a serious threat to inflict harm on the audience and performers at the Madonna concert in Russia — after the pop singer spoke out in defense of imprisoned Russian punk band Pussy Riot.
According to reports, during Tuesday’s show, Madonna donned the trademark balaclava of Pussy Riot and stripped down to reveal the punk band’s name painted on her bare back. New York Times reported that 53-year-old Madonna took advantage of a pause in her performance to address the topic. Madonna believes that Pussy Riot has been unfairly censored.
“I know there are many sides to every story, and I mean no disrespect to the church or the government,” Madonna began. “But I think that these three girls – Masha, Katya, Nadya – I think that they have done something courageous. I think they have paid the price for this act. And I pray for their freedom.”
Pussy Riot — a band made up of three young women named Maria Alokhi, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22 and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29 — is currently facing up to three years behind the cold bars of prison after staging a “punk prayer” against Vladmir Putin in a Russian Orthodox cathedral in March.
As a result of her action, the United States Embassy issued a statement on Wednesday, warning Madonna fans — specifically the American spectators — to be alert and cautious when attending Madonna’s St. Petersburg show Thursday.
“The U.S. Consulate General in St. Petersburg has received information regarding a threat of physical violence against spectators and performers at the St. Petersburg concert on Aug. 9 …Russian authorities have indicated to the Embassy that they are taking appropriate measure in light of this information.”
“While we expect that enhanced security measures will be put in place at both concerts, U.S. citizens are reminded to remain vigilant regarding their personal security, and to be aware of their surroundings at all times, especially in crowded areas.”
A source directly connected with Madonna told media outlet TMZ they will not be deterred by the threat from terrorists and that the show will go on.
Madonna blames “thugs” over Paris concert backlash
July 30th, 2012 by faye
During the recent Paris concert of pop singer Madonna, it ended up with the audience filling the stage with various kinds of debris — such as empty bottles — and yelling insults at the “Material Girl” singer, asking to give back the money they paid for the concert.
According to reports, in a statement on her official website, 53-year-old iconic artist Madonna has responded to the controversy:
“Playing the Olympia was a magical moment for me and it was real treat to do this special show for my fans and be so close to them. Unfortunately at the end of the show – after I left the stage – a few thugs who were
not my fans rushed the stage and started throwing plastic bottles pretending to be angry fans.”
“The press reports have focused on this and not the joyous aspect of the evening. But nothing can take away or ruin this very special evening for me and my fans. When I looked out in the audience, everyone I saw had a smile on their face. I look forward to having this wonderful experience again.”
As previous reports have stated, after performing for just 45 minutes on July 26 in Paris, France, 53-year-old Madonna was showered with boos from the crowd at the Paris’ l’Olympia which has a simultaneous broadcast on Youtube. A fan-filmed video footage of the aftermath of shows people from the audience shouting “Rembourssez! Rembourssez!” (“We want our money back!”), and chanting “salope” – the French word for “slut” – subsequently throwing empty bottles and plastic cups onto the stage. Meanwhile, other attendees of the Paris concert of Madonna took to Twitter their complaints, writing that a short performance of the pop star wasn’t worth the price of admission.
The Madonna fans, many of whom decided to camp out overnight just to purchase tickets, were fuming mad that the Paris concert — a last-minute and more intimate addition to her “MDNA” tour — was much shorter compared to her other performances.
Madonna talked about her “special affinity” with France and even included a rendition of ‘Je t’aime (Moi non plus)’ by Serge Gainsbourg in her set.
One fan of Madonna was quoted as saying that he thought the show was “pretty good,” although he was also quite disappointed about the short seto done by Madonna, taking note that “she didn’t even sing for an hour.”
Reports stated that crowd members of the Madonna concert had paid between €80 (£63/$98) and €280 (£219/$340) for tickets to the performance. Tickets were initially made available exclusively to members of Madonna’s official fan club before going on general sale.
Madonna booed at Paris concert over Swastika backlash
July 30th, 2012 by faye
The riot at the recent Paris concert of Madonna was said to be a payback for the pop singer’s repeated use of a music video featuring a Swastika on French politician Marine Le Pen.
According to media outlet TMZ which was able to talk to some people who attended the Paris concert of Madonna on Thursday night, ten or so “fans” from the crowd who started the merciless booing were overheard shouting about French politician Marine Le Pen. Some were even holding up signs that they had brought to the concert. Previous reports have stated that people from the audience were yelling for refunds after the brief, 45-minute set of Madonna.
It all stems back when Madonna caused quite a stir during her MDNA tour by showing an image of French National Front Leader Marine Le Pen with a Swastika superimposed on her face. The said image appears behind the pop singer during her rendition of “Nobody Knows Me.” Earlier this month, National Front vowed to file a lawsuit against Madonna after the image appeared during a show in Paris.
Following her Paris concert, Madonna’s public relations team released the following statement:
“Madonna’s Paris club show was planned as her heartfelt thank you to France which she expressed at the start of her show. Despite a grueling concert tour, she desperately wanted to perform for her fans in an intimate setting at the historic Olympia as a means to honor her love for French artists, French cinema and a tribute to France’s long history of welcoming and inspiring artists, authors, painters, poets and minorities from other countries over the years. The show was not billed as her full MDNA concert and tremendous effort was made to keep the ticket prices reasonable ($100 for 2000 floor seats) and keep them strictly for her fans. The show cost Madonna close to a million dollars to produce. She has done a handful of club dates in the past and they were never more than 45 minutes. And by the way, she put on a fabulous show which was streamed for millions of fans around the world.”
For her part, Madonna isn’t backing down from the image on the music video. She argued that the swastika use on Marine Le Pen as highlighting “the intolerance human beings have for one another.”
“I always like to tell a story,” 53-year-old “Take a Bow” singer Madonna told a Brazilian television station. “Music should be about ideas, right? Ideas inspire music.”
Madonna booed, called “slut” at Paris concert
July 27th, 2012 by faye
The concert of pop singer Madonna in Paris, France ended with boos, slurs, and bottles thrown.
According to reports, “Girl Gone wild” singer Madonna took to the stage on Thursday evening, July 26, for the latest stop on her “MDNA” world tour, which is currently travelling throughout Europe. Some members of the audience became angry when Madonna ended her concert after just 45 minutes at Paris’ l’Olympia, which has a simultaneous broadcast on Youtube. A fan-filmed video footage of the aftermath of Madonna’s set shows members of the audience shouting “Rembourssez! Rembourssez!” (“We want our money back!”), and chanting “salope” – the French word for “slut” – and throwing empty bottles and plastic cups onto the stage. Others took to Twitter to complain that the short performance of Madonna wasn’t worth the price of admission.
The fans, many of whom had camped out overnight just to purchase tickets, were furious that the show — a last-minute and more intimate addition to her “MDNA” tour — was much shorter than her other performances.
Madonna spoke of her “special affinity” with France and even included a rendition of ‘Je t’aime (Moi non plus)’ by Serge Gainsbourg in her set.
One Madonna fan was quoted as telling news agency “Reuters” that he thought the show was “pretty good,” although he also complained about the short length of the Paris concert, taking note that “she didn’t even sing for an hour.”
Reports stated that audience members of the Madonna concert had paid between €80 (£63/$98) and €280 (£219/$340) for tickets to the performance, which was actually added to her tour as a last minute supplementary concert. Tickets were initially made available exclusively to members of Madonna’s official fan club before going on general sale.
This is the latest addition into the series of controversies linked to Madonna’s “MDNA” tour, which began in May.
The 53-year-old singer was recently threatened with a lawsuit for using photos of right-wing French politician, Marine Le Pen during her show in France as well.
Madonna faces lawsuit for “not paying samples” in her song Vogue
July 13th, 2012 by faye
Pop star Madonna is currently facing a lawsuit for allegedly “not paying for the samples” of her hit song “Vogue” — 22 years ago.
According to reports, a record company named VMG Salsoul has filed a lawsuit against the 53-year-old “Take A Bow” singer for copyright infringement. The said record company claims that Madonna used sample from Salsoul Orchestra’s 1977 dance song, “Chicago Bus Stop (Ohh I Love It).”
Media outlet TMZ reports that VMG Salsoul believes Madonna sampled horns and strings from the said track and used it in her hit song “Vogue,” and she never paid to do so. The record company even elaborated why it has taken them a very long time to file the offending lawsuit. VMG claims that the samples are not immediately obvious.
The company allegedly have only been able to detect it recently due to a new technology which has the ability to isolate and identify sounds. So now, VMG Salsoul is demanding Madonna for unspecified damages in their copyright infringement lawsuit.
Madonna is currently doing a world tour and has been reportedly joined by her lover Brahim Zaibat for the whole trip. The couple left Paris and is said to be heading for Brussels, Belgium. They were then spotted taking a boat tour of Amsterdam earlier this week.
Madonna daughter Lourdes Leon tries on infamous cone bra
June 29th, 2012 by edsel
The daughter of Madonna had quite the shoes -much more the cone bra- to fill.
The Hollywood Gossip reported that Madge’s eldest child, Lourdes Leon, had some fun backstage during her mother’s MDNA tour. A tweet from the Material Girl clothing line displayed a photo of “Lola backstage at MDNA!” this Wednesday. In the photo, the 15-year-old Lola donned her mother’s cone bra and stuck her tongue out at the camera.
Madonna had earlier expressed concern that Lourdes Leon was growing up too fast. Her daughter recently posed in a rather revealing bikini. More scandalously, Lola was also photographed puffing on a cigarette in the streets of New York City.
According to an earlier report by The Hollywood Gossip, the damning cigarette was reportedly a prop for a TV advert. But Madonna was still not pleased.
“Cigarette smoking I’m not very fond of,” Madonna told NBC in an interview, be it for herself or “for anyone [else]. I don’t approve of anyone smoking cigarettes,” she declared, “Most of all my daughter.”
Madonna was a former smoker who kicked the habit. Her daughter Lourdes Leon seemed to be following in her footsteps. The Material Girl line featured mother and daughter modeling clothes.
Madonna “funky grandma,” says Deadmau5
June 22nd, 2012 by edsel
For Deadmau5, Madonna was a “funky grandma” who should act “with a little more dignity” if she was going to enter the electronica genre.
According to E! News, there was no love lost between the electro house producer and the Material Girl. Deadmau5 earlier slammed Madonna for allegedly promoting ecstasy use by asking the crowd “Have you seen Molly?” at Miami’s Ultra Musical Festival back in March. (“Molly” is one of the names for the pure form of ecstasy.)
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Deadmau5 rhetorically asked “You want to be ‘hip’ and ‘cool’ and ‘funky grandma?’ Fine,” he said. “It’s not my place to say you’re irrelevant,” he then said of Madonna.
“If you’re going to come into my world,” Deadmau5 advised Madonna, “At least do it with a little more dignity.”
E! News further reported that the Canadian progressive house master proceeded to double down on his criticism of the Queen of Pop. Deadmau5 believed Madonna was making a thinly-veiled attempt to pander to younger fans of the electronica genre so that they would buy her new MDNA album.
“I understand she has millions more fans,” Deadmau5 (whose real name is Joel Zimmerman; his stage name is pronounced as “dead mouse”) added, “And is way more successful than I’ll ever be.” But according to Deadmau5, the antics Madonna pulled were akin to “talking about slavery at a f–king blues concert. It’s inappropriate.”
Back in March, E! News reported that Madonna tweeted a response to Deadmau5 regarding her headline-making “Molly comment.” Madonna sent Deadmau5 a black-and-white photo of herself dressed as Minnie Mouse. ”From one mouse to another,” she wrote in the caption above the picture, “I don’t support drug use and I never have.”
According to Madonna, she was referring to the song called ‘Have You Seen Molly.’ The song was written by Madge’s friend Cedric Gervais. Gervais and Madonna supposedly came close to working together on her latest album.
Deadmau5 accepted Madonna’s explanation back then. ”communication is always best,” Madonna tweeted of the matter. She believed that “we could have cleared it up privately” if Deadmau5 had called her about it.
Madonna MDNA Tour rider allegedly “longest list of requirements” ever
June 19th, 2012 by edsel
Madonna received a different kind of exposure than the flashes of flesh she gave fans in Turkey and Italy, as a tabloid released what was reportedly her rider for her MDNA Tour.
The Huffington Post reported that tabloid InTouch Weekly acquired a copy of the Queen of Pop’s MDNA Tour rider. According to the alleged rider, Madonna reportedly traveled with a 200-person entourage that supposedly includes personal chefs, a yoga instructor, an acupuncturist, an one-site dry cleaner, and 30 bodyguards.
InTouch Weekly further reported that an insider claimed Madonna expected her dressing room to have 20 international phone lines. The room was also reported required to be draped in a special fabric and filled with lilies and white and light-pink roses whose stems were allegedly trimmed to precisely six inches.
“She requires all furniture be removed from the rooms,” another MDNA Tour insider told InTouch, “And replaced with her own pieces that she has shipped in.”
An anonymous insider informed The Daily Star through The Daily Mail that “Madonna has probably the longest list of requirements of any of the world’s music stars.” According to the source, Madonna “expects things to be just right or it puts her off her stage show.”
Recently, however, a Brit tabloid also claimed to have come across the rider of Britney Spears for her debut as an ‘X Factor’ judge. This rider was subsequently proven to be fake. The alleged MDNA Tour rider reported by InTouch Weekly might also be a fake.
Admittedly, Madonna seemed to be trying to outdo rival Lady Gaga when it came to attracting controversy. In Tel Aviv, Israel, a clip show flashed a Nazi swastika on the forehead of French political leader Marine Le Pen. Next, during a tour stop in Istanbul, Turkey early this month, Madonna flashed her right nipple to her delighted fans. And most recently, less than a week ago, on June 12, Madonna pulled down her pants to show a black thong for her audience in Rome, Italy.
The 53-year-old Madonna will continue to cover Europe this summer. Her MDNA Tour will debut in North America on Aug. 28 in Philadelphia.
