Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas slam break-up rumors
Hollywood celebrity couple Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas have slammed rumors going round that they have split — in fact, the couple looked very happy on Saturday in Marbella, Spain.
According to reports, Melanie Griffith, 54, and Antonio Banderas, 51, who have been married for 16 years now, have been the most recent target of unfounded breakup rumors by a number of media outlets. The rumors claim that their marriage is in trouble over the past couple of months, with unconfirmed reports of the “Crazy in Alabama” actress stepping out in Hawaii alone without her wedding ring.
The couple was at a Starlite charity event in Spain, joined by their 16-year-old daughter Stella. The family beamed at the cameras together, laughed and looked smitten on the red carpet.
Melanie Griffith has been straightforward about her struggles with drug addiction. Previous reports have stated that she checked herself into a rehab back in 2008 to seek treatment for a pill problem.
However, “Puss in Boots” star Antonio Banderas told AARP magazine last fall that his beloved wife’s struggles just made their bond and and marriage even stronger.
“I didn’t know she was so strong. It makes me love her even more, because she has been an unbelievable lion fighting, and she got it . . . it just welded us,” Banderas said.
A major part of Griffith’s recovery from drug abuse was family therapy, which included husband Antonio Banderas and Stella, plus her two children from previous relationships — 27-year-old Alexander and 22-year-old Dakota.
“The whole family participated. We did all the therapies together — the kids, everybody. It was a very unique experience, not only for Melanie. It was very rewarding at the end,” the actor said of his wife.
“I just love him,” Melanie Griffith said of her Banderas. “He really is the greatest guy.”
