“The Green Mile” star Michael Clarke Duncan died from respiratory failure, weeks after he got into a cardiac arrest — this according to the actor’s death certificate.
Media outlet TMZ was able to obtain the documents stating the reason for Michael Clarke Duncan’s death, and respiratory failure is listed as the immediate cause of death.
Reports said that one of the underlying causes of the actor’s death was anoxic encephalopathy — which is known as severe lack of oxygen to the brain. It was said that Duncan’s vital organs were severely damaged during the minutes following his initial cardiac episode on July 13th, when the actor went without oxygen for five whole minutes.
Other underlying causes to the sudden demise of Michael Clarke Duncan include ventricular fibrillation (irregular quivering heartbeat), and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Organ nodules (sarcoidosis) were a contributing factor to the actor’s death.
Two weeks after he went into cardiac arrest, Duncan also received a tracheotomy, presumably to help him in breathing.
The award-winning actor passed away on September 3rd. He was 54 years old.

“The Scorpion King” star Michael Clarke Duncan was deprived of oxygen during his heart attack, resulting in damages with multiple organs so badly that he could not recover — this according to the reports from the coroner.
According to Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter, the personal physician of 54-year-old Michael Clarke Duncan signed off on the actor’s death as natural, adding that the coroner’s office found no reason to contradict such finding.
Sources involved in Duncan’s treatment said that during his heart attack on July 13, the actor went without oxygen for more than five minutes before his fiancée, reality TV star Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth was able to restart his heart with CPR. It was said that five minutes is the outer limit before permanent damage to multiple body organs is likely.
Media outlet TMZ sources said that the decline of Michael Clarke Duncan was slow but steady. First it was a kidney problem, then the pancreas, then extremely high blood pressure, and so on, until his body just totally shut down.
The situation was especially difficult on the actor’s fiancee, Omarosa Manigault, who was told time and time again by doctors that things were looking up and that Michael would be released soon. But every time the reality star got assurance, something else went wrong.
Omarosa Manigault is now at Forest Lawn, making arrangements for the funeral of Michael Clarke Duncan.
A rep for Omarosa released a statement, saying, “Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time.”
The 6-foot-5-inch, 300-pound actor earned himself an Oscar nomination for Stephen King’s movie adaptation, “The Green Mile,” and continued to grow his career with films like “Daredevil,” “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” the Tim Burton’s “Planet of the Apes” remake and “Armageddon.”

Oscar-nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan, star of Stephen King’s movie adaptation “The Green Mile,” passed away on Monday morning due to myocardial infarction. He was 54 years old.
According to reports, the death of Michael Clarke Duncan due to myocardial infarction came very suddenly. Media outlet TMZ reports that his fiancee, Omarosa Manigault, was with him in his hospital room in Los Angeles and left for a short period of time only. When she returned, Duncan was already dead. Sources said that Omarosa’s mother was with the actor when he passed away.
The rep of Michael Clarke Duncan said that “The Green Mile” star never fully recovered from the myocardial infarction he suffered on July 13. As it was previously reported, Omarosa Manigault found her fiance in cardiac arrest and performed CPR and was able to resuscitate him before calling 911 for help.
The rep added, “[Omarosa] Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date.”
In the spring of 2012, the actor had appeared in a video for PETA, the animal rights organization, in which he spoke of how much better he felt since becoming a vegetarian three years earlier.
“I cleared out my refrigerator, about $5,000 worth of meat,” Duncan said. “I’m a lot healthier than I was when I was eating meat.”
