“The Green Mile” star Michael Clarke Duncan died from respiratory failure, weeks after he got into a cardiac arrest — this according to the actor’s death certificate.

Media outlet TMZ was able to obtain the documents stating the reason for Michael Clarke Duncan’s death, and respiratory failure is listed as the immediate cause of death.

Reports said that one of the underlying causes of the actor’s death was anoxic encephalopathy — which is known as severe lack of oxygen to the brain. It was said that Duncan’s vital organs were severely damaged during the minutes following his initial cardiac episode on July 13th, when the actor went without oxygen for five whole minutes.

Other underlying causes to the sudden demise of Michael Clarke Duncan include ventricular fibrillation (irregular quivering heartbeat), and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Organ nodules (sarcoidosis) were a contributing factor to the actor’s death.

Two weeks after he went into cardiac arrest, Duncan also received a tracheotomy, presumably to help him in breathing.

The award-winning actor passed away on September 3rd. He was 54 years old.

“The Scorpion King” star Michael Clarke Duncan was deprived of oxygen during his heart attack, resulting in damages with multiple organs so badly that he could not recover — this according to the reports from the coroner.

According to Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter, the personal physician of 54-year-old Michael Clarke Duncan signed off on the actor’s death as natural, adding that the coroner’s office found no reason to contradict such finding.

Sources involved in Duncan’s treatment said that during his heart attack on July 13, the actor went without oxygen for more than five minutes before his fiancée, reality TV star Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth was able to restart his heart with CPR. It was said that five minutes is the outer limit before permanent damage to multiple body organs is likely.

Media outlet TMZ sources said that the decline of Michael Clarke Duncan was slow but steady. First it was a kidney problem, then the pancreas, then extremely high blood pressure, and so on, until his body just totally shut down.

The situation was especially difficult on the actor’s fiancee, Omarosa Manigault, who was told time and time again by doctors that things were looking up and that Michael would be released soon. But every time the reality star got assurance, something else went wrong.

Omarosa Manigault is now at Forest Lawn, making arrangements for the funeral of Michael Clarke Duncan.

A rep for Omarosa released a statement, saying, “Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time.”
