Playing the sweet and good-girl character of Elena Gilbert, who also happens to be the center of attention and object of affection of the two vampire brothers in “The Vampire Diaries”, Nina Dobrev still seeks something more than what the roles she portrays right now offers. Nina Dobrev admitted she wants to expand and branch out into film and new, more daring roles. During an interview with Nylon magazine, Nina Dobrev said “I want to become a different person, and that’s what working in film allows. I want to be a punk or a sweetheart or a drug addict!”
The Vampire Diaries star told the mag that she experienced a bit of discrimination and difficulties in getting those types of roles in the past. “Sometimes [producers will] be like, ‘She’s not plain enough.’ or ‘She’s not edgy enough.’ That frustrates me. I feel like a blank canvas, and I wish people would be a little more open-minded,” Nina Dobrev said.
But it looks like all her hard work and determination in The Vampire Diaries and all her other shows are finally paying off. 23-year-old Nina Dobrev nabbed a sizzling hot role on the teenage angst film “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, and the rise to stardom clearly does not end there. Nina Dobrev is also harvesting an ever-growing popularity on her CW show, plus her relationship with Ian Somerhalder who is also her co-star in The Vampire Diaries makes it all the more the center of attention. But Nina Dobrev says she still wants to maintain a sense of anonymity above it all.
“I can’t say I’m not interested in Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and their family, but it is something you fight really hard to preserve and keep private.”
Will she finally get the punk/sweetheart/drug-addict role she has been wanting ever since? That lies on the discretion of producers and film-makers, but one thing is for sure: Hollywood has another successful, sugary-sweet star in the making!
