It looks like liquor is a pre-requisite drink for Pat Sajak before going live and doing his hosting job in the game show Wheel of Fortune. When Pat Sajak had an interview with Dan Le Batard on the ESPN2 show “Dan Le Batard Is Highly Questionable,” the longtime Wheel of Fortune host admitted that during the early days of the game show back in the 80’s, he used to be drunk and wasted while he was hosting. Pat Sajak claims he would down “two, three, or six” margaritas at a Mexican joint near NBC studios while  the show is on a 2-hour dinner break before heading back to finish taping.

But there is more to it than meets the eye. Here’s the interesting part: Pat Sajak revealed that he is not alone on his drunken spree. Vanna White, co-host of the show also used to have drinks as well before Wheel of Fortune. Sajak said they were so drunk, they would often “have trouble recognizing the alphabet.” Pat Sajak also explained, “We had a different show then. You didn’t win money. You won fake money, with which you could buy cheesy prizes.”

But then again, they decided to stop their so-called mid-show imbibing tradition in Wheel of Fortune.

“I had a great time,” Pat Sajak added. “I had no idea if the shows were any good. No one said anything, so I guess I did OK.”

“Now, if I were to inhale the cork and a bottle of wine, I would probably keel over. I’m getting a little older for this. So we don’t do that. I would be hesitant to have anything to drink now” according to Pat Sajak.

Good choice indeed, Pat. You sure would not want your head spinning along with the wheel of show, right?
