There will always be some topics that are off-limits when it comes to comedy – and Rainn Wilson has learned that lesson after he reportedly tweeted a date-rape joke which clearly raised an alarm to his followers. ‘The Office’ star owed up to his insensitive tweet and later issued an apology for what he has said.
“If I were ever date raped I would want it to be to ‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin,” Rainn Wilson jokingly said in his Twitter page. The writer and actor, who plays the character Dwight Schrute on “The Office,” has about three million followers on the social media platform and is usually tweeting thoughtful insights between jokes that are actually funny and not the least bit offensive.
After causing a minor alarm from his followers due to the date-rape joke, the 46-year-old Wilson deleted the controversial tweet from feed and took to his Twitter account to issue an authentic apology where Rainn Wilson, “Apparently my poorly conceived date-rape tweet upset a lot of folks. Not a good topic to joke about. Sorry & won’t do that again.”
Since his apology for the date-rape joke, Rainn Wilson has collected replies from fans, appreciating the effort he made for taking responsibility on his offensive remark — and for doing so with a quick response. Fortunately, no Twitter uproar resulted from Rainn Wilson’s date-rape joke either.
Rainn Wilson doesn’t appear to have any projects in the works that would benefit from courting controversy, and he is actually known to be just a random tweeter. Recently, the actor wrote, “Apparently Freida Kahlo was a terrible party guest, always talking about Diego Rivera’s weight & issues of having a uni-brow.”
