Singer-songwriter Rick Springfield has pleaded no contest to charge of reckless driving following his arrest last year due to driving under the influence.

According to reports, 62-year-old Rick Springfield was able to strike a deal in his DUI case by pleading no contest to reckless driving charge in a Los Angeles court. In exchange, the district attorney dropped the DUI charges against the musician. As part of his deal, he was put on three years of summary probation and was ordered to pay a fine. Additionally, the “Jessie’s Girl” singer is also asked to complete an alcohol diversion program and attend a progress hearing next February.

Previous reports have stated that Rick Springfield was arrested back in May 2011 on suspicion of driving under the influence after the singer was pulled over by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department due to a traffic violation.

He was subsequently asked to undergo multiple field sobriety tests, which he failed before he was brought to a local police station where he was booked and released several hours later.

The field sobriety test results of Rick Springfield were released, showing his blood alcohol level at 0.10 and 0.08. In California, the legal limit for blood alcohol level is 0.08.

Earlier that day when Rick Springfield was arrested, he had been talking about signing copies of his memoir “Late, Late At Night,” at the Los Angeles Times Book Festival at USC in L.A. That time, the singer reportedly appeared lucid and even in great spirits as he joked around with the crowd, and at one point, he even threatened to pull his pants down and expose himself to members of the audience who were already getting up to leave.

Australian-born singer Rick Springfield rose to fame with his hit 1981 song “Jessie’s Girl” which quickly became an iconic song of the decade and also made him win the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. He also tried his hand at an acting career by appearing in the hit U.S soap “General Hospital” as Dr. Noah Drake during the early eighties, and then again from 2005 to 2008.

Springfield is also known for battling depression throughout his life — an issue that he discussed in detail in his memoir which was first released at the end of 2010.

The singer was also a member of the pop rock group Zoot from 1969 to 1971, then started his solo career with his début single “Speak to the Sky” reaching the top ten in Australia. During mid-1972, Rick Springfield relocated to the United States. He followed with four more top ten US hits, such as “Affair of the Heart,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, “I’ve Done Everything for You” and “Love Somebody.” His two US top ten albums are “Working Class Dog” (1981) and “Success Hasn’t Spoiled Me Yet” (1982).
