Susan Boyle, who gained popularity after joining “Britain’s Got Talent” does not seem all too unfazed with comedian Ricky Gervais, who made some nasty remarks regarding Boyle’s looks. Gervais said that Susan Boyle looked like a ‘mong’ during his ‘Science’ live show last October.

During a tirade about the Scottish singer, Ricky Gervais said: ‘She would not be where she is today if it wasn’t for the fact that she looked like such a f*****g mong. There is no better word to describe Susan Boyle. When she first came on the telly, I went, “Is that a mong?”

Susan Boyle, on the other hand, said that she was not bothered by the remarks of Ricky Gervais, noting that insulting her was just wasting his talent. During an interview with the “Sun,” Boyle said, “I can take whatever Ricky says, because I’ll tell you something – he’s the one with the problem, not me. Ricky’s a talented man but he’s wasted himself with those comments. I think people who liked him are not so keen now.”

After Ricky Gervais made the comments about Susan Boyle on his show, which was broadcast on Channel 4, he was reported to Ofcom after several viewers complained. But in January, Channel 4 was cleared of breaching guidelines on offensive content and at the time of the decision, Gervais reportedly insisted, “I have used “mong”, but never to mean Down Syndrome and never would.”

Ricky Gervais also added, “The meaning of words change over time, “gay” for example. The modern use of the word “mong” means dopey or ignorant, it’s in slang and urban dictionaries.”

Susan Boyle – who has had three No.1 albums since becoming runner-up of “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2009, that have sold more than 17 million copies worldwide – seems to be truly unperturbed by Ricky Gervais’ comments, saying it was like water off a duck’s back. She also added: “I’ve had a lot of insults. Do you know what I do? I ignore them. I just get on with my life. Those who have something to say usually have nothing to do.”
