Major League Baseball star Vladimir Guerrero has been arrested after he allegedly attacked a police officer during a bar brawl.
According to reports from local authorities, right fielder and designated hitter Guerrero was involved in a massive bar brawl at a nightclub in Dominican Republic, where he allegedly attacked a policeman named Renato Pena Rojas. After the incident, Vladimir Guerrero surrendered himself to the police on Wednesday morning.
However, the 37-year-old baseball player vehemently denies the allegations and has released a statement about the bar brawl, saying “At no time did I attack anyone, nor was I fleeing. I presented myself at the jail last night after the complaint from the disco, and this morning first thing I went to the police that are handling the case.”
Police said no charges have been filed against Guerrero following the club fiasco in Nizao, about 40 miles from Santo Domingo.
Vladimir Guerrero, who is a native of the Dominican Republic, was one of the most feared hitters in baseball before. He is now a free agent after finishing last season with the Baltimore Orioles in 2011.
