“500 Days of Summer” star Zooey Deschanel slammed rumors that she and English comedian Russell Brand has been dating. Last month, “OK!” reported that Brand has been wooing Deschanel, after he had just divorced from pop singer, Katy Perry.

According to reports, a rumor spread last month about Russell Brand fancied his chances with Zooey Deschanel and was bombarding her with calls and flirty messages to try and get a date.

During a new interview, Zooey Deschanel, who stars in the sitcom “New Girl,” was adamant about putting an end to all the rumors surrounding her private life and insisted it had all been made up. Speaking to “The Guardian,” Deschanel said: “That’s complete fabrication! I don’t even know him! I maybe met him [Russell Brand] once, in passing, four years ago. And he definitely doesn’t have my phone number! That was a story made up by a single website. It’s crazy how that got picked up – I mean how does that even happen?”

A source told the US OK! magazine: “Russell Brand has had his eye on Zooey for a long time. And he’s been sending funny, flirty texts to see if they can get together.”

The source added, “He thinks she’s hysterically funny and cute, too. He loves her quirky sense of humor, and thinks they’d be great together both on-and off-screen. There’s a real spark there.”

The 32-year-old Zooey Deschanel divorced from her husband Ben Gibbard in November after two years of marriage. She met the Death Cab for Cutie singer Gibbard in 2008 and the pair were married in Seattle the following year.
